How to fix Error 2908

In most cases, the Error 2908 message will pop up when you are trying to install software. You might see something like:

“Internal Error 2908. Could not register component <ID>”

Or

“Error 2908. Could not register component [2].”

The first step to try to rectify this situation is to restart your computer and to scan your PC for Windows registry errors.

It could also be a situation where the profile you are using is corrupted. You can try logging in under a different profile or turning off the profiles before trying to reinstall the software.

Error 2908 can occur with a variety of software, but it has been noted with versions of:

Microsoft Word
Microsoft Publisher Microsoft Picture It! Photo
Microsoft Picture It! Publishing
Microsoft Office
Microsoft Excel
Any Add-In Express.Net product packages (especially if you are installing them for a second time)
